Ying Hong No. 9 (英红九号) is the most widely cultivated black tea cultivar in Guangdong Province, China. Developed by the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences’ Tea Research Institute in Yingde, it is a hybrid of Yunnan large-leaf and Guangdong local varieties.
Ying Hong No. 9 is known for its bold, malty character with natural honey sweetness and a distinctive red liquor. It is the primary cultivar used by producers in Luokeng and throughout the [Shaoguan](https://shaoguantea.com/glossary/shaoguan/) region for wild ancient tree and high-mountain black teas.
