Danxiashan (丹霞山, “Red Cloud Mountain”) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Global Geopark in Renhua County, [Shaoguan](https://shaoguantea.com/glossary/shaoguan/), Guangdong. It is famous for its spectacular red sandstone peaks, pillars, and ravines — the type locality for “Danxia landform” geology. The Danxiashan tea region benefits from the unique red sandstone terroir. The porous, mineral-rich Danxia red sandstone soil, combined with the subtropical monsoon climate and altitude of 300–600 meters, creates exceptional drainage and air circulation. The red rock absorbs heat during the day and releases it at night, moderating temperature extremes. This terroir is particularly suited to white tea and oolong tea production, with teas from this region known for their bright, floral character and smooth texture. Danxiashan is a designated Protected Geographical Indication (GI) region for tea.
